The Book

Will you jump in
the deep end?

Deep Dive is a working reference for gathering publicly available data and turning it into actionable intelligence. It walks through the tradecraft OSINT specialists actually use, grounded in real investigations rather than theory.

You study real cases through the eyes of experts, learn the collection and analysis process end to end, and pick up the skill that separates good analysts from the rest: thinking like an adversary.

“Real-world examples in OSINT investigations, dissected through the eyes of experts.” What Deep Dive does
Who It’s For

New to OSINT, or years in.
Both, on purpose.

If you’re just starting

Build the foundation

  • One place, not fifty browser tabs. The fundamentals of OSINT collection and analysis, organized instead of scattered across blog posts.
  • Learn by real case. You see how experts actually work an investigation, so the process sticks.
  • The adversary mindset early. Understand how your data is used against people, and how to protect it, from day one.
  • Breadth before you specialize. Subject, business, IoT, financial, and transportation intelligence in one map of the field.
If you’re already in the field

Still earns desk space

  • Fill the gaps outside your lane. Most analysts are deep in one domain. Deep Dive covers the ones you never formally learned.
  • Niche tradecraft, rarely taught. Maritime, transportation, and IoT/industrial collection that almost no course covers.
  • A reference, not a read-once. Cases and frameworks you come back to mid-investigation.
  • Sharpen judgment. Adversary thinking and source verification that keep experienced analysts honest.

The maritime chapter
hits different right now

Maritime is Rae’s home turf, and it gets a heavy, hands-on treatment in Deep Dive. With shadow fleets, sanctions evasion, and dark-vessel activity dominating the headlines, it is the most relevant tradecraft in the book today.

  • Track vessels through AIS, including the gaps, spoofing, and dark activity that signal something worth investigating.
  • Follow the ownership trail from a hull to the shell companies and people behind it.
  • Read the patterns, not just a single blip, to tell normal shipping from sanctions skirting and cover operations.
  • Built from real casework, the same methods Rae uses tracking Russia’s shadow fleet.
